It was an honor and a privilege to be a candidate for the 13th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. On election night, November 3rd, I called Congressman Joyce to congratulate him on his re-election. In our short, warm conversation, I asked him to use his medical background and experience to focus on prioritizing the federal response to the national public health crisis, COVID-19, and improving our health care system for all Americans . If I had known then that he would instead focus on upholding the falsehoods of electoral fraud and signing Amicus Briefs to disenfranchise millions of Pennsylvania voters – and question the legitimacy of the election results from the same ballot that was our two names contains – I might have delayed the correct, required concession call that evening. But my values of decency, respect for the citizens of PA-13 and norms of our democracy have led me differently.
Congressman Joyce has failed utterly at every opportunity to defend our constitution and ensure a peaceful transfer of power. He voted against the confirmation of the votes of the Pennsylvania (and Arizona) electoral college just hours after the deadly siege of the US Capitol. If not enough, he voted against impeachment to hold the person accountable for not only causing a riot but preventing this violent attack on our democracy. The horrific images of that day should shake us all as Americans to the core. After nearly 30 years in the civil service as a law enforcement officer – 24 years as an FBI special agent – it is deeply worrying to learn that there were law enforcement, fire / rescue and military personnel – active and retired – among the insurgents. This reflects the extent of the grave harm our country and its institutions will suffer when tolerated by a twice accused president and supported by sycophants like Congressman Joyce.
In just a few days, a new government will bring our government to face the monumental challenges facing our country. There has never been a moment in our lives when we need leaders and agents who put the interests of our country and the American people above the political party, an individual leader, or personal self-interest. That's why I ran against Congressman Joyce for consistently showing his inability to do so.
We urgently need to unite our country. Congressman Joyce can help by demonstrating decency, truthfulness, and courage in officially recognizing the election victory of President-Elect Biden and Vice-President Harris-Elect. Then as a doctor by supporting the proposed US COVID-19 rescue plan to save lives and rebuild our economy.
