ELLSWORTH – The Rev. Jonathan Vogel has accepted a call to serve as pastor of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
Pastor Vogel is a graduate of Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa., where he earned his Master of Divinity degree. During his 30 years in ministry, he has served congregations in Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Connecticut and Augusta. Wherever he served as pastor, he also volunteered at the local hospitals. Between 2014 and 2019, he completed additional studies that qualified him to serve as a full-time staff chaplain in a hospital setting. He has served as staff chaplain at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta and at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Under his leadership during the pandemic, St. Andrew has established a number of options for worship including parking lot attendance utilizing FM radio station 87.9, sanctuary with masks and distancing or online access. He has also worked with the congregation to organize special events for young children, and to establish a telephone chain among members to encourage communication and to monitor those with special needs.
