As the state adapts to the current COVID-19 pandemic guidelines, several organizations have come together to provide Central Pennsylvania families with resources that can help improve their physical and mental health.
The resources, provided by WITF, Capital BlueCross, and WellSpan Health, are part of the new “Here With You” campaign. It includes the distribution of 3,600 family resource packs, free access to a mental wellness management mobile app, a 12-week community walking challenge, and a unique Transforming Health Summer Read that will focus on health and mental resilience.
Seven school districts with active meal distribution efforts will be provided “Here With You” resource packs, and will use the next three weeks to give them to families at the regular “grab and go” meal distribution sites. Inside each bag are supplies and additional information for children that will help spark creativity and encourage them to stay healthy at home during the summer months.
The supplies include colored pencils, a pencil sharpener, ruler, a glue stick, and other tools that might not be accessible at home. The pack also contains an activity sheet, wellness information, a first aid kit, lip balm, hand sanitizer, and seed packet and planting instruction card.
“We so appreciate WITF’s efforts in helping families stay connected with learning during the COVID -19 school closure,” Nancy Snyder, Ed.D, Assistant Superintendent of West Perry School District, said. “They have assisted us in finding creative ways to engage children in meaningful educational experiences through television programming and by providing at-home learning tools. It is heartening to see the community come together on behalf of families during this unprecedented time.”
3,500 “Here With You” family resource packs will be distributed among York City, Gettysburg, Lebanon, Lancaster City, Harrisburg and Chambersburg school districts.
“WITF is proud to work with Capital BlueCross and WellSpan Health to help meet the needs of families in our communities,” said WITF Director of Education Debbie Reik. “Children of all ages need supplies to support their learning – even over the summer. We applaud children’s commitment to do their best and are pleased to give them, and their families, tools to make it all a little bit easier.”
The “Here With You” campaign includes free registration for myStrength, a behavioral health mobile app offering support for managing depression, anxiety, stress, sleep and more. By using the app’s self-care resources, users will be able to track their health, enjoy interactive activities and watch inspirational videos.
Free registration for myStrength is available now on www.TransformingHealth.org, or by downloading the myStrength mobile app through the App Store or Google Play. In order to sign up, a user needs to enter the Access Code “TransformingHealth” without any spaces. It is private, secure, and can be customized depending on user preferences.
The “Here With You” campaign will debut its 12-week community walking challenge later this month. The challenge was created as a way to promote wellness by encouraging participants to walk in honor of essential workers, healthcare staff, first responders and any others on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis. At the end of the challenge, a $500 prize will be donated to a nonprofit of the individual winner’s and team winner’s choosing.
The campaign will include the 8th annual “A Summer Read,” as part of a new community partnership with WITF’s Transforming Health and Aligning Forces for Quality- South Central PA and Central PA library systems, as well as additional support from WellSpan Health and Capital BlueCross. The official announcement will be held in early July.
“We’ve all experienced so much stress this year,” said Cara Williams Fry, WITF Senior Vice President and Chief Content Officer. “This summer’s selection will be an inspirational book with a special focus on behavioral health and mental resiliency. Working together, we’ll help make both hard and digital copies of the Summer Read available to 10 library systems throughout the mid-state.”
The Transforming Health partners came together to create the “Here With You” campaign, out of a mutual “duty” to bring hope and needed resources to residents within central Pennsylvania.
“As a true community-minded health plan, and the only one headquartered in our region, we feel great responsibility to strengthen our communities and continue to improve the health and mental well-being of the people living here,” said Todd A. Shamash, president and CEO of Capital BlueCross. “This collaboration between Capital BlueCross, WellSpan Health and WITF shows our collective commitment to these shared values – and brings resources to promote wellness and foster vital connections, especially during this great time of need.”
