An Adams County man was fatally shot by police and a man wanted for attempted homicide in York County was arrested after a police chase Monday afternoon from Pennsylvania into Maryland, authorities say.The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said Pennsylvania State Police were pursuing 42-year-old David Leatherman, who was wanted in connection with an Oct. 7 shooting in Penn Township.Authorities said Leatherman was with Bryan Selmer, of Gettysburg, in a stolen truck traveling along Route 15.At one point after the chase entered Frederick County, authorities said shots fired from the truck hit a police vehicle from Cumberland Township, Adams County. The officer was not hurt.The sheriff’s office said Leatherman and Selmer crashed in Emmitsburg, then got out of the truck and ran.According to a news release, “Leatherman fled into the Emmet Gardens housing area where a Pennsylvania state trooper and a FCSO deputy confronted Leatherman in an attempt to arrest him. During the incident, the deputy and trooper were involved in an officer-involved shooting with Leatherman.”Leatherman was taken into custody.Investigators said Selmer turned toward pursuing officers and took a shooting stance with his arms extended and his hands together like he was holding a gun. Police shot him, and he later died at a hospital, authorities said.The sheriff’s office said Wednesday that a gun was found at the scene of the crash. So far, no weapons have been found where Leatherman was arrested or in the location where Selmer was shot.
